Afternoon News Roundup

Americans Against Escalation in Iraq will hold a press conference at Randy Kuhl's Bath office this afternoon. The purpose of the conference is to request a meeting with Kuhl so Kuhl can explain his position on the war.

The Massa campaign is having a fundraiser next week in Rochester, with featured guest Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) chair Rep. Chris Van Hollen (MD-8). According to the Massa invitation for the campaign, the departure of David Nachbar from the race has allowed the DCCC to put the race in the 29th in "top tier status". This early support from the DCCC is significant, since there wasn't much DCCC activity in support of Massa during the last race.

If the DCCC or Massa would start running ads early, Kuhl wouldn't be able to respond, since he really has very little money onhand, plus he needs all the money for his car payments. I can't imagine that it would cost that much to advertise on tv in the elmira channels, since the Rochester area has pretty much turned against Kuhl as we know from the last 2 elections, the may start advertising there just to slowly knock his numbers down, and dwindle his fundraising numbers.

Since the bulk of Kuhl's fundraising comes from PACs, I don't know if ads would knock back his fundraising in the district.

Also, you're right that it's cheaper to advertise in the Southern Tier. But Massa also needs to pay for a campaign office, staff, travel, etc. for 15 more months. Since most of Kuhl's activities are related to his work, his travel and office nut is a lot smaller than Massa's.

kuhl is only going to raise x amount of $$. He is counting on there not being a primary so he can double dip from all the PACS and everyone else. However, that $$ must be tied up until after the primary. If Massa forces him to spend money and defend himself, Kuhl will not be able to dip into the new money, which he is counting on until after primary day. Massa should be able to use this to his advantage if he goes on the air with tv ads in June or July..He should be able to spend Kuhl to death.

Kuhl is one of the worst GOP fundraisers, plus almost all of his money is from PACS. He is not going to get all the union $$ he got last time (he will get some, but a negligible amount).
