Morning News: Locks, Op-Eds and Vigils

The lockdown story got some more press on Elmira's WETM. Their short story puts the blame on "authorities".

Eric Massa's op-ed, which first appeared in the Corning Leader, also made the Elmira Star-Gazette.

The Americans Against Escalation in Iraq meeting that was the subject of an earlier protest happened last night. The Star-Gazette announced the meeting, but I haven't seen any other media coverage.

Last but not least, an item I missed yesterday: Rochesterturning reviews the latest fundraising numbers for the Democratic and Republican Congressional Committees. The DCCC has a 10:1 edge on the RNCC.

The Corning Leader has a nice article on the town hall meeting, but it is not on-line. Over 100 people showed up for it in Bath, which for the Southern Tier is great.

Rubberstamp Randy is a coward. He has no problem sending our troops into harms way, yet he can't even meet with his constituents. Not only that but he has barricaded himself in his office.

And for his staff to suggest that they are following instructions of Homeland Security--if Homeland Security has wasted even one minute of man power on this I'd be shocked. It would be easy for some muckraker to figure out if in fact their eoffice has received "threats", because if that's the case there should be a police report files locally, which is public record...

Where are these rumors that Randy won't be running again coming from? Not in Steuben County, certainly. Of course, were it true--it would be another explanation for State Sen. Winner (from down here-Elmira) having been thrust into the spotlight to 'investigate' Gov. Spitzer. Get him lined up to step in with added 'punch.' But shy of a University teaching role, where would a still reasonably young and vital fella like the Congressman go? A Judgeship? They will have to move fast while his bud George Bush still is in power. Such intrigue. And where is Mark Assini these days? Thanks for keeping us "in the sticks" informed.....ha ha.

I think the rumors are wishful thinking by Democrats at this point.
