Massa on the AMT

Reader Elmer sends Eric Massa's letter to the Corning Leader [pdf], addressing Randy Kuhl's earlier op-ed on Charlie Rangel's tax proposal.   Massa has a slightly different take on what Kuhl calls the "Mother of All Tax Increases".

I am a Vietnam era Navy veteran (only 4 years) and I respect everyone's service. I was named after my uncle Elmer who was killed in France in 1944 while serving in the Army. My brother was an officer in the Army. My Dad and three of my uncles were in the Marines during WW2. My youngest uncle was in the Air Force and served in Korea.

You will have a hard time finding anyone who backs the military as much as I do, but I am getting worn out by Eric Massa's referencing his years of service in the Navy. If this was the only criteria for electing congressmen, we would just let 30 year military retirees run for office. It is very rare that Eric says anything without "24 years of service in the Navy" coming out.

Here's the problem he's facing: you and I read the papers, blogs, etc., all the time, and we hear him say the same things a lot. But he knows that every time he gets some publicity, he's addressing some members of the audience who are hearing about him for the first time. So he slips in some biography when he makes his point.
