"Pelosi made an absurd statement and Kuhl ran with it " - at least we know where the idea came from - if you can't trust the Speaker of the House, who can you trust?

I do feel that there are those who would oppose drilling even if it could drop the price to 25 cents per gallon.

Massa's came out against Pelosi's statement when I asked him about it on Wednesday.

On your second point, what's your take on Massa's argument that oil is a scarce resource and we're trying to preserve it for our kids and grandkids? In the case of drilling and the national debt, Kuhl and McCain don't seem to want to address our responsibility to the next generation. They advocate tax cuts that will grow the debt, and drilling that will deplete our reserves of oil. Don't we owe future generations something?

I agree that we need to leave a balanced budget for future generations. I feel the best path to that destination is through a leaner federal (and state) government,

If you listen to the politicians, in the near future we will be able to rely on alternative power sources such as solar, wind, bio-mass and nuclear. If this turns out as projected, then future generations will not need any fossil fuels left in the ground. If these projections are incorrect, we will not have a choice but to use the fossil fuels available to us.

If we are serious about leaving fossil fuels in the ground for future generations, we will find a way to burn coal cleanly and to extract oil from shale inexpensively.

Of course, we need to find ways to use less energy to accomplish what we need to do (home heating, autos, etc.).
