Good Days, Senate Change, Single Payer

This morning's Corning Leader has two stories about Eric Massa. First, Massa presented an award to the founder of Camp Good Days. And, he commented on yesterday's reshuffle in the New York State Senate.

Finally, Massa was interviewed on GRITv about single-payer health care. You can watch the video after the break:

Just when you think things can't get more absurd…

With Republicans in control of the Senate for the past umpteen years, upstate–nay, the whole state–was served better just exactly how, Sen. Winner? I wait with bated breath to read whatever celebratory missive I'll be getting from Mike Nozzolio.

I can't see that the state will be better-served with either party in power in the Senate.

What I hoped would happen is that the Dems would take over and then slowly replace some of the worst of their bunch.

In any case, a truly functional state legislature would be good, so long as we're dreaming.

This from the Daily Mess. The last paragraph is particularly interesting.

I meant: This from the Daily Mess. (Too much coffee for a change.)

I agree that a fully-functioning legislature would be a good thing, but unfortunately this latest compromise puts a couple of the most corrupt Dems in the drivers' seat. Also, while it's nice to see some ethical reforms, they are mostly window dressing.

He couldn't have articulated the public option any better. The main argument against the option is that it will force private insurers out of business. I'm sure that the millions of Americans who are now out of work (and without health insurance) can sympathize with that view. As would the owners and employees of Chrysler dealerships, Lehman Bros, and all the other businesses that have been, or are about to be shut down.

Yeah, out-of-control healthcare costs coupled with the prospect of being unemployed serve to focus one's thinking on healthcare reform. I doubt that "socialized medicine" will have the same weight that it once had in this debate.
