Morning News: Absentees, Election Roundups, Redistricting

Reader Elmer sends this Corning Leader story about the number of absentee ballots cast in the 29th. It's probably around 20K, and that's over 5% of the total votes cast in the last Presidential year (2004). We might not know the winner of this race for a week or two.

News 10 and WETM have race backgrounders up today.

Finally, the Buffalo Business Journal has a redistricting story.

Early Morning News

Reader Elmer sends the front-page [pdf] (and jump [pdf]) Corning Leader (AP) story on the 29th race. Here's an interesting quote:

Besides [Kuhl] said, Massa will have to shoulder public frustration with the inaction and "Democratically controlled nonsense" in Congress since Democrats gained the advantage in the House in 2006. "My opponent's a Nancy Pelosi clone!" he hollered.

Exile at The Albany Project has a fascinating display of every piece of mail sent by Randy Kuhl, showing why Randy holds the record for mailing costs in the last year.

The Star-Gazette has a candidate Q&A this morning.

Afternoon News: Massa GOTV and Endorsement, Randy in Monroe

Responsible New York, Tom Golisano's political committee, has endorsed Eric Massa.

The AP reports that this election will be historic. It's likely that we'll have the fewest Republicans representing us since sometime before the Civil War.

The Kuhl campaign reports that Randy knocked on doors in Monroe County, visited Gro-Moore Farms in Henrietta, and is now headed to Ontario and Yates Counties. Tomorrow, he'll be in Yates and Chemung Counties.

The Massa campaign has put out a call for volunteers as part of their get out the vote operation. Offices and phone numbers after the break. The Massa campaign is planning on mobilizing 2,000 volunteers.
